THURSINA IIBS OF HOLISTIC AND BALANCING EDUCATION

The rapid development of science and technology has changed the civilization of the world, the social environment and even our families and children. Changes and challenges we can not avoid because it has become the sunnatullah we have to face.

As parents and Muslims, it is our responsibility to educate and prepare our children to be Muslims who are submissive to the teachings of Islam and at the same time ready to face such changes and challenges. As God says:

وَلْيَخْشَ الَّذِيْنَ لَوْتَرَكُوْا مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعَافًا خَافُوا عَلَيْهِمْ فَلْيَتَّقُوا اللهَ وَلْيَقُولُوْا قَوْلاً سَدِيْدًا

“And let those fear as if they had left weak offspring behind and feared for them (that they would be exposed to injustice). So let them fear Allah and speak words of justice (righteousness).” (QS: An-Nisa:9).

One of the strategic efforts in building a strong generation is to provide the best education. Education is expected to provide a good dye (shibghah) by organizing educational programs that can form the maturity of spiritual and emotional, sharpness of thought and skills and integrity are commendable. However, not all educational institutions are able to provide sufficient stock so that the existing generation still tend to weak, lack of confidence, and have not been able to compete both at the national and global level.

In an effort to respond to the anxiety, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) comes with the hope of becoming an educational attainment capable of providing provision for our children and generations of Muslims in general to be able to stand firm and confident in facing the changing and challenges of the times by organizing more holistic, balanced programs, in accordance with the demands of change of the times (relevant) and managed with full trust and effectiveness (well-managed). The picture of the philosophy of the educational process in Thursina can be seen in the following diagram.



Holistic Education

Holistic education is a multidimensional educational paradigm that underlies the educational process in Thursina. In accordance with its nature, Allah SWT has equiped our children with the right nature (fithrah) of trust, high intellectual and skillful intelligence, positive emotions, high integrity, subtle and strong physical feelings. All of these potentials will evolve according to the education we provide.

Ideal education should be able to facilitate the development of this basic potential maximally and thoroughly. However, existing educational practices tend to be partial and dichotomies (segregation) occur between the fields of science that can inhibit the development of the basic nature of our children. In western countries, education tends to be secular. This kind of education is able to print a generation of intelligent and high creativity, but weak in the vertical (spiritual) so tend to be materialistic and individualist. On the one hand, education in the majority of Muslim countries still tends to be dogmatic and conservative resulting in a less competent, less creative and less confident generation that has not been able to compete in almost every field of life.

Education in Thursina seeks to improve the two paradigms by making the concept of Islamic teachings (al-Qur'an and al-Hadith) the foundation and center of all existing educational processes. In the process of education, students will follow the learning process (ta'lim) thoroughly and balanced, the process of conditioning and the formation of character / adab (ta'dib) and the process of purification of intention and self (tazkiyah) through the daily worship santri program.

Balanced Education

The educational process and objectives in Thursina are also conducted and directed balanced way. Balance or At-tawazun is one of the noble principles of Islamic teachings. In the context of education, the principle of balance can be interpreted to provide a comprehensive curriculum content and make the process of education in proportion to the nature of human beings with the aim of reaching happiness in the world and akherat. As the Word of Allah SWT:

وَابْتَغِ فِيمَا آتَاكَ اللَّهُ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ وَلَا تَنْسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَأَحْسِنْ كَمَا أَحْسَنَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ وَلَا تَبْغِ الْفَسَادَ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُفْسِدِينَ

“And seek the Abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah has given you, and do not forget your portion of this world (too). Bestow (give without expecting anything in return) as Allah has bestowed on you and do not seek (cause) mischief.” (QS. Al Qashash: 77).

Despite applying a diverse curriculum, the education process in Thursina is done proportionally and maintains the psychological stability and physical health of santri. In practice, the santri are given special time to worship, study, socialize with peers, communicate intensively with family, recreation or even nap (qoilulah). Competitive education will lead our children to become a superior person as a whole and can achieve success and happiness in the world and the hereafter.

Curriculum and Relevant Teaching Method

In addition to balanced processes and objectives, Thursina also issues content and methods to keep it in line with the date and time. A less relevant curriculum will cost the santri not only in facing the exam and the exam in school will be very significant in the face of various kinds of problems continuously. Therefore, the study of the curriculum content becomes very strategic and continuously needs to be done well the content of curriculum material of al-Quran, diniyah, national, self-development of santri and international curriculum.


In addition to the relevant curriculum, the methods in Thursina are also required to keep up to date. Methods relevant to environmental conditions, physical and psychological development, learning style (learning style) and so forth will make it easier for children to learn. Therefore, all teachers and murabbi in Thursina are required to be able to provide interesting, effective and effective lessons with modern strategies and salaf as the Messenger of Allah has demonstrated. In addition, teachers and murabbi are also required to improve their skills with various programs.


In connection with this, the companions of the Prophet, Ali bin Abi Talib have invited us to teach our children according to the conditions of his day. In other words, in educating children, we can add relevant content and methods according to current conditions and challenges in the future.

Campus and the Modern Management

In order to realize a holistic quality education program, effective and accountable management and management support and management (amanah) are needed.

From the aspect of supporting facilities, Thursina is committed to building a conducive living and learning environment by providing modern, complete, effective and unique learning facilities and dormitories. Environmental design and existing learning facilities is a harmonious blend of ideas of architects and education managers so that existing facilities not only have aesthetic value (art) is high but also safe and effective in accordance with its function of supporting the learning process, socializing, recreation and others etc.

To build effective and accountable management of modern management, planning (planning) becomes a very important part in Thursina. Effective planning starts from a clear drafting to a rigorous implementation monitoring and ongoing evaluation of outcomes. Effective planning provides clear direction and objectives along with effective achievement strategies. In modern management principles, mistakes in planning mean planning failure and loss. In connection with this Allah Almighty has also reminded us of the importance of planning all our activities:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنْظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

“O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah before death), become the owners of piety towards Allah! And let every soul consider what it has offered for tomorrow! And become the owners of piety towards Allah. Surely, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.” (QS: Al-Hashr:18)

In this verse God commands us to always pay attention to what we will do, earnestly and evaluate its impact in the future including in the future. Some ways we can do is to conduct an effective and sustainable planning and evaluation both in terms of time (time management) and strategy how to achieve (strategy management). In the context of teaching, teachers and murabbies in Thursina should do careful planning before teaching in the classroom so as to be able to achieve the learning objectives more effectively.

Besides being effective, management management in Thursina must also be accountable and transparent. Accountable can be interpreted to carry out all duties (amanah) with full sincerity, honesty and high responsibility. While transparent means can be accounted openly both in front of stakeholders (wali santri, santri, teacher, etc.) and before Allah SWT later. To be able to make it happen, required a positive work rules, structure and clear job description, work guidance (SOP) is good, as well as systematic and sustainable quality control procedures.

By adhering to this principle, Thursina's entire society is required to work sincerely, earnestly and have a high work ethic because we believe that all activities and tasks will be evaluated periodically and accountable to all stakeholders involved including before Allah SWT.

Such is a brief overview of the basic principles of management education and management in Thursina. By adhering to the principle of holistic, balanced, relevant and modern education is expected to be able to take our children into generations of Muslims-modern centuries of modern morally excellent, be an inspiring leader and internationally- minded), so as to be able to compete and stand firmly in carrying the mandate as servant and khalifah of Allah SWT.
