Inspirational Talk : Thursina IIBS Introduces and Engages Students To Be More Sensitive To Problems Through Research
In the beginning of new semester, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School held an Inspirational Talk by the theme "An Introduction to Start A Reasearch” (22/01). Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T. M.Sc., a Lecturer and researcher of Engineering Physics Department of Multimedia Nusantara University was invited as a speaker. He invited students of class 11 of Sciencepreneur major to learn developing simple ideas to be a new finding with big impact.
Research might begin from simple things with an impact. One of the ways is observing what others do, searching and modifying other functions of the research. As what done, Niki has modified the research of Titania ceramics with a fairly thin layer of polyaniline plastic to maximize Titania's function as a ceramic that is able to absorb sunlight.
"A research becomes a solution to deal with problems. Many things start with problems and research is the key, " Said a doctoral graduate of Toyohasi University, Japan.
Furthermore, he revealed that research is about problem solving. To start with, understanding problem comprehensively is a must, then theories and logic should be taken into account as guidelines.
Imagination is required as well to find the answer with another perspective.
"In fact, there are multiple answers for a problem. Even it has been a research for specific problem, another new answer or solution is still probable or available with other points of view," he explained.
Niki, also, revealed that empathy has become necessary in the beginning of the research. One with deep empathy will be easier to find problem in the surrounding. Therefore, in some processes of research preparation or building a start up, this empathy concept is introduced to the researchers.
Certainly, reading is significant factor to start a research, mainly research reports or scientific journals. Reading them might provide us an insight about what other researchers have done, and mostly, the suggestion for future research is written, in that it could be an initial idea to do research. "When finding a problem, we should be able to explore and elaborate to formulate the main problem scientifically, critically, sistematically, and objectively based on data," He added
The students, in addition, provided with an opportunity to consult about the research they are doing, therefore they could deepen the problem and the concept of their research.
