Meneguhkan Kembali Komitmen Dalam Disiplin Berbahasa, Thursina IIBS Gelar Program Empowerment Kick-Off: Foreign Language & 5S

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) held an Empowerment Kick-Off: Foreign Language & 5S as a strategic step to strengthen language culture and discipline within the Islamic boarding school on Saturday (November 8, 2025). It served as a crucial opportunity for management and all human resources to realign the vision of the institution to develop a generation with morals, global perspectives, and excellent character.

The CEO of Thursina, Ustaz Nur Abidin, M.Ed., opened the agenda by recalling the spirit of the initial Thursina founding as an international educational institution based on Islamic values and mastery of English and Arabic.

In his remarks, Ustaz Abidin emphasized that mastery of foreign language is not merely a technical skill, but rather an institutional identity and a symbol of readiness to contribute to the global arena. He believed that language is a vital instrument for preaching, international communication, and the development of the student's futuristic character.

"Commitment isn't just words, but exemplary actions. When teachers and staff are disciplined, students will follow suiting. This is how we build civilization by being role models, not just reminders," said Ustaz Abidin.

Furthermore, in their presentation, the Thursina IIBS management team presented the results of a SWOT analysis regarding the implementation of foreign language culture within the school. In terms of strengths, Thursina has an international vision, with human resources and a boarding school system supporting the creation of a bilingual environment.

However, weaknesses include low motivation and foreign language habits, as well as the lack of standard regulations for its implementation. Significant opportunities come from parental trust, an international reputation, and global outreach programs. The greatest threats are differences in language proficiency standards among teachers, staff, and new students, as well as an external environment that is unsupported to bilingual culture.

Meanwhile, Chief of Education, Ustaz Muhammad Rajab, M.Pd., presented the results of a benchmarking session in Singapore, inspiring the fostering culture of discipline at Thursina. He highlighted three main values of Singapore progress: Clean and Green, Discipline, and Smart. From these points, the Thursina 5S concept was implemented: Prayer, Greetings, Uniforms, Shoes/Sandals, and Waste.

The management has implemented a new policy: a Rp 50,000 fine or a 25-point demerit deduction for anyone caught littering. The use of English and Arabic is also mandatory for official announcements, activity instructions, teaching and learning processes, and daily conversations.

Meanwhile, from a human resource development perspective, Ustazah Dian Asmi Setoningsih, M.Pd., Chief of Human Capital Management (HCM), emphasized that a meritocratic culture similar to that found in Singapore will be implemented at Thursina. Each teacher and staff member will be assessed based on discipline, adherence to the 5S program, foreign language use, attendance, and daily performance.

Thursina IIBS reaffirms its identity as an educational institution committed to build a disciplined, clean, and globally oriented ecosystem through the program. Discipline, tidiness, and foreign language proficiency are no longer seen as administrative requirements, but as the cultivation of excellent character that are ingrained in Thursina students.

"The Empowerment Kick-Off Program marks the beginning of a structured improvement program to ensure the quality of human resources and students aligns with Thursina IIBS grand vision as The Center of Excellence," concluded the CEO of Thursina IIBS. (Iz/lil)
