Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) once again held the Thursina Student Associate (TSA) presidential election for male and female students in September 2025. This annual event is eagerly awaited by students, as it fosters a democratic atmosphere within the boarding school. The election begins with a candidate debate, followed by voting, and finally, the winner is announced as TSA president.
The debate was lively, with full participation from all students. The candidates presented their visions, missions, and proposed work programs for developing the TSA organization, including academics, organizational skills, and social activities.
After the debate, the students were directed to the voting booths to cast their votes. It was conducted in an orderly and transparent manner, with attendance lists, ballot distribution, and the voting mechanism kept confidential.
A disciplined yet warm milieu pervaded the voting agenda, every student having an equal right to make their choice.
The votes were then counted openly in front of witnesses representing the candidates. The moment bolstered the students' confidence and engagement in democratic process. The culmination was the announcement of the elected TSA male and female presidents, who would lead the student organization during the upcoming term. The euphoria of victory, along with the spirit of togetherness, was palpable on their faces.
Ustaz Febryan Yustiadi, S.Pd., as Vice Principal of Student Affairs, said the TSA presidential election is a significant character building tool. "Through the election, they learn about open-mindedness, democracy, and responsibility. They practice to be leaders born from collective voice, not simply by appointment. It is part of real-life learning that is crucial as well as classroom learning," he said.
Furthermore, he hopes that the elected TSA male and female presidents would carry out their responsibilities well and serve as role models for their peers.
"Hopefully, they would manage TSA to be more active and beneficial, and become a platform for leadership learning. May the experience will encourage other students to be brave enough to stand up, compete fairly, and be prepared to become future leaders," he concluded. (Iz/lil)
As the closing of the series of activities, the official inauguration of TSA Male and Female officials was held solemnly in the main hall of Thursina IIBS. This inauguration ceremony was directly led by the Principal of Thursina IIBS, A. Ali Syihabuddin, S.Si., M.Pd., and attended by the boarding school's leadership and all students.
In the ceremony, the elected TSA presidents took an oath of office and a commitment to serve with full responsibility.
In his speech, A. Ali Syihabuddin emphasized the importance of leadership spirit based on Islamic values.
“Leadership is not just about leading others, but also about how to lead yourself. Honesty, discipline, and trustworthiness should be the essence in every step you take. Be a leader who sets an example, not merely one who gives orders,” said Ustaz Syihab.
He also urged that TSA Male and Female could become the driving force behind various positive activities at Thursina IIBS.
“You are the reflection of the next generation of leaders. Use this opportunity to do your best for the institution, for your friends, and for yourselves. May this responsibility bring blessings and make Thursina advance further with the spirit of collaboration and togetherness,” he concluded.
