As many as ten students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) once again brought honor to Indonesia in the 2025 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) in Thailand. A couple students gained bronze medals, while the rest received Merit awards.
This prestigious event is part of Thursina IIBS strategic initiative to develop an intellectually, spiritually, and globally excellent generation. As explained by Ustadzah Syarifatul Azaliyah, M.Mat., a mathematics teacher and Olympiad mentor, WMI provides space and challenges for students to demonstrate their full potential on the international stage. "They build self-confidence and broaden their horizons," Ustadzah Aza stated.
The selection was carried out strictly with internal assessment by Thursina IIBS mathematics teacher team. Followed by intensive training by Edukultur, the official representative of WMI in Indonesia. The 10 best students were declared to have passed the national selection. They are representatives of the junior high school level, including Aisha Sheniqua (8) Pranaza Rakha Yudha â (8), Felicia Syahrizada (9), and â Kayla Azzahra Putri Kamila (9). Meanwhile, the high school students consist of Afif Hibrizi Agsari (11), â Hasya Mirzha (11), Chalisah Kanita (12), Kayla Khairani (12) also two students who won bronze medals, Naufalyn Ranadhiya Putri Hadi (10) and Hazhiyah Khanza (12).
The preparation is gradual and comprehensive, encompassing academic training, character development, and competition simulations. Maintaining persistent motivation and time management is the biggest challenge, especially considering they must attend regular classes daily.
Despite the tight schedule and the diverse culture and climate, the participants demonstrated exemplary Islamic boarding school students. They not only excelled academically but also maintained their spiritual commitment by praying on time. "There was a memorable moment on the sidelines of the competition, they exchanged gifts with participants from other countries. It was a proud display of knowledge," recalled Ustadzah Aza.
An achievement worth celebrating. The students brought home renewed enthusiasm and valuable experience. The competition has taught them the importance of hard work, sportsmanship, and global perspective. "Hopefully, the experience will inspire them to continue learning, developing themselves, and making the best contribution to the community," she concluded. (sls/lil)
