Tazkia IIBS Representatives Explore International Issues in IMUN 2020

The students of Tazkia International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) participated in prestigious event once again, Indonesia Model United Nation (IMUN), presented by University of Indonesia. Participated by hundreds of students from high schools and universities in Indonesia as well as some Asian countries, the participants had experience in diplomacy and international relation in the simulation session of  United Nations (UN).

As many as eight students, taking a role as representatives of some countries such as, Vietnam Bolivia, Pakistan, and Nepal, of Tazkia Senior High School participated in four-day IMUN (20-23/01/20). They did research independently to complete their data for a paper to be presented in front of the audience.

One of the participants, Zalecha Arum Putri, told, she and seven of her friends were intensively trained by experienced mentor. Also, they got special training from the event organizer about MUN 101, sometime before the event got started. All participants were directed about the activities, procedures and regulations during IMUN.

Zalecha said the agenda in IMUN is interesting, including Debate, Unmoderated Caucus, and General Speaking List (GSL). The last is the most fascinating since one was given 90 seconds only to present his idea in front of other team.

"I was nervous initially, however I dare myself to convey the idea to solve the problem," she said.

Zalecha and friends had valuable experience during IMUN. They became country representatives in UN session, discussed with other participants from different background, and, certainly, felt the convivial atmosphere of international conference. "By discussion, we learn global issues all over the world," she added.

Zalecha supposes that her experience in IMUN would encourage herself to talk in front of public to express her idea or solution to others. Furthermore, she hopes that someday she would be a representative in other international conferences.
