Out of 150 participants, Thursina IIBS Students Soared to be the First National Runner-up

Another proud achievement was accomplished by one of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) students, Tristan Razka Aquila. The eighth-grade student secured first runner-up honors in the 2025 National English Festival, a prestigious competition attracting hundreds of participants from various schools across Indonesia.

For him, the success is not just a victory, but a turning point for his enthusiasm to come back after a long hiatus from the Olympic world.

The road to triumph was not instantaneous. During the 1.5-month coaching period, he underwent intensive training with English Thursina IIBS team from the preliminary to the final round. Out of 150 participants in the initial round, he advanced to the top 10 semifinalists and ultimately to the top five national finalists.

Under the supervision of Ustaz Prasetyono Herdianto, S.Pd., as Academic Advisor and English Competition Coach, Tristan was forged not only in English skills, but also in a competitive mindset and self-confidence. Ustaz Pras said, Tristan is a student with an excellent work ethic. "I feel grateful to accompany a diligent, quick-witted student who has a strong ambition to make his parents proud and bring honor to the name of Thursina," said Ustaz Pras.

Furthermore, he added that Tristan is known as a quick learner who enjoys challenges. He is also interested in coding and technology; a combination demonstrating the potential of a broad-minded and adaptable student in the future.

On the other hand, this success is his first achievement at Thursina, but not his last. He had previously, in elementary school, often participated in some Olympiads. After a brief hiatus from competition, Tristan rediscovered his passion for the support and learning environment in Thursina, which provides students with the space to develop to their full potential.

“Thursina encouraged us to try more, not just to win, but also to learn from each experience,” Tristan said with a bright smile.

In addition to making the school proud, Tristan's victory inspired his fellow students to upgrade their skills. His eagerness and perseverance reflect the values upheld at Thursina IIBS.

Events like the National English Festival are not just a stage for competition, but also a platform for character building, combining intellectuality and spirituality.

Concluding the inspiring story, Ustaz Prasetyono delivered an important message to Tristan: "Keep the spirit on, join more competitions — not only for winning, but for learning to be better." Because, in truth, true victory lies not only in the trophy held, but in the courage to grow, learn, and inspire others. (iz/lil)
