Perseverance, enthusiasm, and good time management are the keys to the success of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) students in advancing to the 2025 Provincial National Science Olympiad (OSN). Four students were declared to have passed the Regency OSN selection and are ready to compete in the Provincial level. A couple of students from Junior High School (SMP), Muhammad Choirul Azmi Han triumphed in Mathematics and Azizir Rohim achieved in Natural Sciences (IPA). Meanwhile, Nadhif Syahmi Hukama succeeded in Biology and Chalisah Kanita passed in Mathematics, both are students of Senior High School (SMA).
However, success is not gained instantly. Ustadz Muhammad Jundi, a teacher of Diniyah of Thursina IIBS, explained that the selection began with an open recruitment for all students. In addition, Thursina IIBS has prepared tutoring partners to develop questions and test instruments for each subject. "Once the best candidates are selected, they will receive intensive coaching for approximately three months," said Ustadz Jundi.
Coaching sessions were conducted two to four times a week with experienced OSN tutors. More than only a routine, the training had fine-quality in each meeting. As the day of Regency OSN was getting closer, the coaching became more intensive and structured and finally had raised the participants to the upper provincial level.
The District OSN for junior high school level was completed on June 17-18, 2025, while for high school on June 24-25, 2025. The competition had been held using the Computer Based-Test (CBT) system, accompanied by supervisors from other schools.
Ustadz Jundi explained that intensive training and coaching are not enough to get students to this point. Time management skills are essential as well. As students living in dormitories, they must still participate in mandatory daily activities while adjusting the schedules with their tutors.
"The thing I admire most about the students of Thursina IIBS is their abilities to manage their time and try hard, even though the school schedules are tight," added Ustadz Jundi.
The balance between academic activities and dormitory life for the students has schooled them into resilient individuals, ready to face high-level challenges. "Hopefully, the provincial OSN in August will be a bright day for the students to accomplish more and win medals," he concluded. (sls.lil)
