Tazkia IIBS Students Hone Diplomatic Skill in AYIMUN 2020

After success in delegating its students to United Nations (UN) Global Challenge in 2018, Tazkia International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) redelegated students in another precious program. Putri Zalfiyanti Prasetya and Adilah Sukma Meinisha Harwanto, students of year XI in Tazkia High School, have passed the selection as representatives of Indonesia in Asian Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) 2020.

The meeting held on February, 15-18 2020 in Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, followed by around 8000 participants from all over the world. During the conference, Tazkia students took part as delegation of particular country for United Nations court simulation.

To pass the selection, the participants should register online and write motivation letter. After announced they were passed, the mandate of delegation and country represented would be sent.

The two participants were trained intensively before the day. They should write a paper about issues in the country represented and deliver it in the conference.

They also were coached by the former delegation of previous 3-month MUN. "They might be younger, however we tried the best to get them ready before the program," she said.

The participants have learnt much about critical thinking, teamwork, effective communication, problem solving, and public speaking skill, both ethic and material are essential, in AYIMUN. Initially, Putri and Adilah were worry about adjustment issues, however they could handle it well. Ustadzah Ika told, they have made friends with people in different background, age, religion, education, and life style.

The participation of Tazkia students in AYIMUN becomes valuable experience for them. Hopefully, they would constantly maintain their skills out of the school because learning is not only in the class, but also in the social interaction.

"As long as we live, we still have chance to learn everything," she says.
