Spreading The Spirit of Change Through the Fifth Thursina Super Camp 2021

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) held the Fifth Thursina Islamic Super Camp (ISC) by the theme “Santri: The Next Changemakers” (30-31/01). The Fifth ISC was held virtually, participated by all candidates of Thursina students for 2021-2024 for junior high school and 2021-2023 for senior high school faraway from their homes.

The Director of Relation and Enrolment Office (REO), Ustadz Sabar Arifin explained that ISC was intended to provide a pictures about santri life. Daily activities to kinds of religious activities were shown, therefore they would imagine student life at Thursina.

   

"Following the ISC, they would know about what they need to prepare for living in boarding school, and get to use to it," he said.

Ustadz Sabar, furthermore, explained that the fifth ISC aimed to introduce students to new phenomena emerging around them.  Especially, related with the speed of technology which has an impact on some aspects of life in the boarding school later.

"We realise that student should be well prepared for the change, whether it comes from outside or inside of themselves, " He said.

   

A muslim, basically, has strong adaptive attitude. Ustadz Sabar told, through ISC, the participants are invited to strengthen the attitude, starting from making small changes in themselves. Such as, helping parents doing chores to determining a goal in their study.

"Students should be ready for changes,  starting from small things related to themselves, to big changes for the community, " He said

The virtual concept of ISC 2021 is a part of changes introduced to the prospective students. They would experience new technology to communicate, as well as learning process, whether it is academically or religiously, such as tahfidz.

   

Besides knowledge about daily activities in Thursina, there are also sharing session with alumni and the experts, story telling, introduction to language program, and tips and strategies to memorise Al Quran quickly, "Each participant was required to make video project related to self-reliance activities for junior high school and aspirations for senior high school students," he explained.

In the second day of ISC, there was the launching of Si Santri Website, a virtual learning platform that can be accessed by students and prospective tazkia students.  At the end of the session, the best participants in several categories were selected, such as the best video project for each batch, the best language and tahfidz program participants, to the most active and disciplined participants.
